Compatibility- CD/DVD Drives are fairly generic and can easily be swapped from one machine to another. System builders like Dell, Compaq, IBM etc do not make their own drives - they rely on manufactures like Sony, Toshiba to make them and they just add their part number to it. So a Dell CD R/W would work in virtually all computers and a HP Compaq DVD Drive would quite happily work in a Dell.
